The Dancer’s Zone

Have you been watching the Olympics? I’m amazed by their peak performance which is when an athlete, dancer or anybody working their passion operates in ‘the zone’.

In the simplest terms, the “zone” (or “flow” as some sports psychologists call it), is generally described as “the pinnacle of achievement for an athlete”, and characterizes “a state in which an athlete performs to the best of his or her ability” (Young & Pain 1999)

We love achieving that state in class – where the sexy naturally arises because the confidence and trust in our bodies are so strong.  It’s a state when we lose time & are just focused on following our bodies that someones we forget what we just did. This is what we at Zensual call, the dancer’s zone.

Dancers who achieve this state say they reach such a high state, it continued in a post-performance high throughout the next day.

If you want to achieve this state of flow, have confidence in how your body moves while doing something you enjoy, turn off your brain, and trust that you’ll catch glimpses of being in the zone. If you want more, consider a pole dancing class where you can let your brain take a min-vacation. You’ll thank yourself later.
